Courir de Mardi Gras : Join the Fun!

Also known as “Fat Tuesday Run,” Courir de Mardi Gras is one of the oldest local traditions surrounding our area in communities of Mamou, Eunice, Church Point and others.  It usually involves masked riders in costumes heading to the countryside, either by horseback or truck. The revelers go door-to-door to local farmers begging for ingredients for the gumbo, usually singing and dancing.  The riders at the end of the day return with ingredients for a large pot of gumbo to serve the entire community.  Tee Mamou-Iota Mardi Gras wear colorful, handmade costumes and masks.  It usually includes a festival with live Cajun & Zydeco bands and dancing, Cajun foods and arts and crafts from local vendors.
