Avery Island Jungle Gardens

Avery Island Jungle Gardens

First founded as a private bird sanctuary by the son of the Tabasco sauce inventor, this stunning estate was converted into Jungle Gardens in the 1920s. Now covering more than 170 acres, the Jungle Gardens have become a favorite Louisiana “tourist destination, wildlife refuge and botanical marvel”. Take a self-guided tour, guided botanical tour, or guided historical tour to view the many attractions such as a 1936 Buddha Statue, the one hundred thousand something snowy white egrets in the Bird City, various wildlife, the largest alligator ever taken on the island, and the impressive bamboo groves.
