Local Festivals
Tee Mamou Iota Mardi Gras: February
Prairie Cajun Mardi Gras at its best! Traditional groups singing, dancing and chanting 400 year old chant in French, all wearing hand made screen masks, costumes, and capuchouns. The “Mardi Gras” arrive about 2pm but festival is all day event in downtown Iota. Cajun crafts, live Cajun and Zydeca music all day on an outdoor bandstand and dance floor.
Courir de Mardi Gras: February
Held Sunday prior to Fat Tuesday. Run begins at 8am ends downtown for a parade at 1:30pm. Colorful costumed horseback riders, wagons, buggies, and live music on the courir. Chase the chickens, catch the greased pig, spectacular events. Traditional gumbo, bouding, and beverages available.
Festival International de Louisiane: April
Five day festival last week in April in downtown Lafayette. Best in international music, dance and visual arts and cuisine from the Francophone world.
Crawfish Festival: May
First weekend in May held in Breaux Bridge. Enjoy crawfish prepared every way imaginable and multiple stages of live Cajun music.
Rayne Frog Festival: May
Mother’s Day weekend in May at Gossen Memorial Park. Join us as we celebrate 50 years of the Rayne Frog Festival! We will pay homage to all of the culture, memories, traditions, music, and food that have made our festival so wonderful throughout the years. So this year only seems fitting that we go back to our “roots” and celebrate how it all began.
Le Cajun Music Festival: August
The third weekend in August held in Lafayette. Events include Le Cajun Music Awards, crowning of Miss Le Cajun and plenty of live Cajun music.
Louisiana Sugar Cane Festival: September
Third weekend in September New Iberia commemorates the Louisiana sugar cane industry, carnival, parades, boat parade, fireworks, fais-do-do, Blessing of the crop and harvest season, agricultural fair, coronation of queen sugar, art & flower shows. Free.
Roberts Cove Germanfest: October
First full weekend in October Roberts Cove just outside the Rayne city limits. German bands, singers, dancers, folklore and rice threshing demos, antique farm equipment, variety of German foods and kiddies land.
Festival Acadiens & Creole: October
Second week in October in Girard park & Downtown Lafayette. Celebrate the rhythm of Cajun life and dance to Cajun waltz or two step to the upbeat rhythms of accordions, fiddles, and ti fers (triangles). Step back in time as traditional crafters demonstrate their artistry.
International Rice Festival: October
Third weekend in October in Crowley one of the oldest and largest agricultural festivals in the south.
